MEET THE SPEAKERS

Bonnie
Bonnie S. Michelman, CPP, CHPA, Executive Director of Police, Security and Outside Services
Bonnie Michelman has extensive leadership and security management experience in diverse industries. She currently is the Executive Director of Police, Security and Outside Services at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Security Consultant for Partners Healthcare Inc., an organization comprising 13 hospitals, hundreds of offsite facilities, and a workforce over 100,000. She oversees a licensed Police Department in this role among other departments. She was formerly a senior executive at First Security Services Corporation (now Securitas) overseeing Security for 60 diverse operations and Assistant Vice President for General Services/Operations at Newton Wellesley Hospital managing 16 operational and support departments.

Bonnie is on the Board of Directors and Past President for the International Security Management Association (ISMA). Bonnie served as President in 2001 of ASIS-International, a 40,000-person organization, Chairman of the Board in 2002, and Foundation President from 2003-2005. She is Past President (2008 and 1995) as well as Chairman of the Board of the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS). She has been an Instructor at Northeastern University, College of Criminal Justice in the Graduate and Undergraduate program for over 20 years. Bonnie is on the Regional Board of Directors for the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) and chairs their National Security Committee. Under Bonnie’s direction, MGH won the Lindberg Bell Award for the nation’s finest healthcare security program in 1999 and 2007 among numerous other awards and recognition. She was appointed in 2010 by DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano to the Homeland Security Advisory Council (HSAC), holding that position until 2015 and chairs the DHS Faith-Based Security Advisory Committee. Bonnie has held many leadership positions nationally, internationally and Bonnie lectures and consults on areas of healthcare security, workplace violence, hate crimes, active shooter training, domestic violence, risk assessment/management, disaster planning, leadership, and communications. She has many publications in various journals on safety, security, leadership, and management.  She also does significant work in Executive Coaching, Management Engineering, and Strategic Planning.

Bonnie has an MBA, and MS in Criminal Justice and a BA in Government and Sociology. She holds her CPP and CHPA certifications.

David J. Gibbs, CPP, Principal, Physical Security SME
Mr. Gibbs is a senior consultant with more than 40 years of global strategic and operational experience in the Security Industry.  Mr. Gibbs’ security and management experience includes risk and vulnerability assessments, program management, strategic planning, systems design and development, profit and loss as well as the development and management of global strategic alliances.   Additional skills include:  analytical, organizational, and communications skills, with the ability to devise strategies and provide innovative solutions resulting in the creation of strategic programs and alliances that have created lasting business relationships.

As a prolific writer and as a founding member of several professional security associations and chapters, Mr. Gibbs has received numerous awards from peers, industry press and professional associations.  He has also been honored by industry leadership countless times during his career as a security master planning subject matter expert. 

As Council Vice President with the American Society of Industrialized Security (ASIS) Mr. Gibbs is influencing industry trends while establishing Best Practices that can be adopted worldwide.   He has also been a mentor to several individuals that are currently in security leadership roles with Fortune 1000 companies.

Kaiser Permanente, Oakland, CA
Mr. Gibbs and team provided a system-wide technology and operational assessment and management plan that included a Physical Security “snapshot” of current systems, devices, and programs, a benchmark with industry comparators, a gap analysis between current and recommended programs, the development of key performance indicators as well as in-depth risk and vulnerability analysis of the operation.  The technical approach also included a review and planning to interconnect to the data network with an eye on centralization and integration of all systems and processes to Security Operation Centers in the respective service areas.  Mr. Gibbs has been providing security consulting services to Kaiser Permanente for over 25 years.

Carla Boragno, Vice President Site Services @ Genentech

With more than 25+ years of experience in engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and M&A integration, Carla brings unique insight and expertise to her role as Vice President of Site Services at Genentech. Carla currently leads Genentech’s corporate real estate portfolio, physical infrastructure, and workplace services for the South San Francisco campus. The campus spans over 180 acres and over 5 million square feet of space, supporting 15,000+ employees. Carla holds a Bachelor of Science, Chemical Engineering from University of California, Berkeley.

She is a respected mentor at Genentech, in the industry and community. Carla is also a sought after inspirational speaker. She serves on the Board of Directors for Northern California Junior Achievement, Bay Area Council, the Genentech Foundation, and is a member of the International Women’s Forum.

In 2016, Carla was recognized by the San Francisco Business Times as one of the most influential women in business in the Bay Area, and in 2017 was named to their “Forever Influential” Honor Roll. In 2017, Carla was also selected as a Hall of Fame honoree for the Northern California Real Estate Women of Influence Awards.

Outside of work, she can be found working in her kitchen and garden, and volunteering at her daughter’s school.


Grant C.

Grant Cunningham, Regional Security Manager @ Oracle 

Grant Cunningham is the Regional Security Manager for Oracle Corporation and is responsible for all specialized regional operations, incident response, investigations, crisis management, event security, and guard force oversight at all Oracle facilities at headquarters and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Grant attended San Jose State University and was a Los Gatos police officer for seven and half years.  While a Los Gatos police detective, Grant specialized in sexual assault and child abuse investigations. 

At the mid-point of his career, Grant became an investigator with the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office, Bureau of Investigation, eventually attaining the rank of Lieutenant. Grant supervised investigators assigned to sexual assault, child abuse, and homicide and was the team leader of the D.A.’s officer-involved shooting team. 

Grant has been a long time supporter of the YWCA Silicon Valley and a tireless advocate for the ASIS San Francisco Bay Area Chapter Women in Security initiative.

Grant lives in San Jose with his wife and two teenage daughters and enjoys playing basketball, surfing, traveling and camping.


Anders

Anders Noyes, Director of Property Management and Security @ Skywalker Properties

Anders started his career in local law enforcement working for a Bay Area municipal agency. His corporate security experience includes directing the physical security programs for both Sony Corporation at Metreon in San Francisco and the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.  His current role includes responsibility for global security strategy for Skywalker Properties and its principals.  He is a member of the ASIS CSO Center for Learning and Development and has partnered with the Young Professionals Council on a national level to deliver content ranging from career path advice to mentoring as part of panel discussions. He has participated as a mentor through the SFBA ASIS chapter’s program pairing mentors and protégés.


Carlos

Carlos Galvez Jr., Global Security Leader @ Oporturn

Carlos began his security career in 1997, as a security guard with American Protective Services (APS) assigned to Adobe Systems in San Jose, CA. In 2003, Carlos joined Juniper Networks, as a regional security operations manager, responsible for protecting Juniper's people and facilities in Asia, Latin America and its HQ offices.

In 2008, Carlos joined a growing global security services company as the regional vice president of operations for Northern California and the Pacific Northwest. Carlos grew gross annual revenue from $13mil to over $50mil in three years and supported over 800 full-time employees. In 2011, Carlos joined Cisco Systems in San Jose, as a Global Protective Services Manager. Carlos expanded his experience in the executive protection industry, by providing protection to the C-Suite team at Cisco, foreign heads of state and working with the US and global security agencies, throughout the world.

In 2013, Carlos was recruited to join Amazon.com at their Lab126 subsidiary in Cupertino, CA. Here Carlos protected retail consumer products, while also protecting Amazon's people and facilities. In 2014, Carlos was asked to lead Amazon's global corporate security program, which covered over 80k employees and 100 locations around the world. Carlos joined Oportun in Redwood City CA, in 2015 protecting its people and operations across the US and Mexico. Using his diverse background and perspective, Carlos has begun building world-class security and safety, team and program.

Carlos has volunteered his time with the local ASIS International chapter and has presented at national security and protection educational courses. Additionally, Carlos has been a certified peace officer for the state of CA and works patrol in the city of Soledad as a reserve peace officer.


Nicole

Nicole Hayes, Senior Manager, Global Security, Safety and Investigations @ Oportun

Nicole Hayes is the Senior Manager of Global Security, Safety and Investigations at Oportun. Nicole began her security career in contract guard services as a receptionist 8 years ago. She has developed and managed security programs ranging from policies and procedures, safety, security technology, and threat management. As an active member of the SF ASIS Chapter since 2015, she has served on several committees for SORD and LEAD events.
