Women in Security Committee

Mission
The ASIS SF Bay Area Women in Security’s mission is to enhance the industry by offering highly sought-after and dynamic training, education, networking and conference events; to inspire, encourage and empower women to seek leadership roles, reaching their full potential. We are committed to bringing more inclusion and diversity to the security industry by engaging all our allies in support of this mission.

History
In early 2015, the ASIS International SF Bay Area Chapter Chair, Matt Livermore, attended a national conference where he met women in the security field who had created a Women in Security Council. He believed the local SF Bay Area Chapter should be involved and recruited Kim Whitworth (G4S) to form a Women in Security (WIS) committee. Kim reached out to Alana Forrest (Oracle) to enlist her contacts and shape the first meeting. As early and humble grassroots efforts go, over 20 women were invited and 7 showed up for dinner and drinks in San Francisco, May 2015. The WIS was born.

Since then….
Kim and Alana put together the first annual WIS conference in April 2016 at NVIDIA. It consisted of a panel of women security professionals and attendance was around 80 people, including men and women of all levels within the security industry. Realizing the need and excitement generated by the event, Kim and Alana put together a committee to assist in planning future events. Attendance has increased in the double digits event after event, and we hope to improve our events and grow our numbers year after year.
