SFBA 2024 Spotlight

As we enter 2024, it seems appropriate to look back at where the chapter has been to gain perspective on where we are going. A few of our past Chairpersons were asked to provide their unique perspective on how they have seen the chapter change over time and to provide some insight into what they think is next. 

As our 2022-2023 Chair, Alicia Domingos said “Covid changed everything. You need to see people in person. You need to call people. You need to communicate with them differently to get them at the right level [so] that they feel comfortable enough to give you feedback.” When asked how Alicia thinks we can better serve our stakeholders, she said “I think for our members, it's communicating with them in a format where they are comfortable. And, as a board, it’s really having an open line of communication, being approachable.” She went on to say that just as we all learn differently, we also communicate in different ways.

Matt Livermore, Chair of the Communications Committee, said he is excited to see us gathering in person again, “like we did in 2015” when he was Chairperson. He offered some advice to new members and to those in our community who want to become more involved: “Come to our monthly meetings and introduce yourself to the Board and to other Chapter volunteers… join the Communications Committee!!... Or any Committee for that matter. Choose a Committee that has a topic you are passionate about.”

The newly appointed Board of Directors has framed a few objectives for this year that emphasize utilizing a diverse scope of communication channels to reach a more diverse subset of members, with a wider range of experiences and background, and to provide opportunities for them to make an impact on the future of the security industry. Now is the time to capitalize on the opportunity to let your voice be heard, to take that leap towards a certification, and to become a part of something that matters. The 2024 Board, our previous Chairpersons, and our community are excited to welcome you to join us as a guest, a member, a volunteer, or a sponsor in the upcoming year
